When I first arrived in Poland, everything felt completely new to me. A different country, a different language, and an entirely new way of life. The first few weeks were more challenging than I had expected. The language barrier, combined with the fact that people initially seemed a bit reserved, sometimes made me feel lonely.

As time went by, however, I realized that this was a perfectly natural part of the process. The more I communicated with people and opened myself up to new experiences, the more everything began to change.

Throughout my project, I had the opportunity to spend time with both preschool children and elderly people. At first, communicating with the children was quite challenging, but over time we built a strong bond. This experience taught me patience and showed me that meaningful communication can happen in many different ways.

The time I spent with the elderly helped me develop greater empathy and encouraged me to see life from different perspectives. Being part of an international environment was equally valuable. Meeting people from different cultures and working alongside them broadened my horizons and gave me unforgettable experiences.

My journey was not limited to the project itself. In my free time, I had the chance to explore different cities across Poland. Each city had its own unique atmosphere, architecture, and way of life. These trips allowed me to relax, discover new places, and gain a deeper understanding of the country and its culture.

At the same time, thanks to the Polish friends I met here, I had the opportunity to experience the country’s culture in a much more authentic way. Spending time together, having conversations, and getting to know their daily lives taught me so much. I also realized firsthand that the people who initially seemed distant were, in fact, incredibly warm, kind, and always willing to help once you got to know them.

During these six months, I didn’t just volunteer—I also discovered a new side of myself. At the beginning of the project, I realized that I was quite reserved, but over time I became more open, more social, and much more confident.

I improved my English, learned the basics of Polish, and developed a broader, more open-minded perspective toward different cultures. This experience helped me grow not only as a volunteer but also as a person.

Looking back today, I can clearly see how much this experience has given me. This project was not just a volunteering experience—it became a new beginning in my life.

Living in a different country, meeting new people, and discovering my own strengths and limits gave me memories and lessons that I will carry with me forever.

If you ever have the opportunity to take part in a project like this, I wholeheartedly encourage you to seize it. It may become one of the most meaningful experiences of your life.
