As a volunteer working in a school environment, my days were full of cultural exchange and learning moments. I can consider this process as a meaningful exchange where I enjoyed every moment of it, from sports lessons to excursions where I taught the culture, food and language of my home country and learnt a lot about Polish culture. I also enjoyed spending time outside the classroom with mini-trips that allowed us to get to know Poland better through activities such as nature walks, theatre, school visits, etc. Celebrating special occasions together further strengthened bonds and created a warm and inclusive environment where each day felt like a celebration of shared experiences.

What made this experience truly memorable were the relationships formed along the way. The students were not only learners but also enthusiastic cultural ambassadors exchanging ideas and sharing their stories. With my fellow volunteers and new friends in Poland, we were able to share our experiences and become each other’s companions on our travels, sharing the same journey and collecting many beautiful memories that will make this experience lasting. In six months, I had the chance to travel to many countries. I saw different cultures, tasted the local flavours of each country, and made great friends.

From my own experience, I can confidently say that volunteering is a powerful journey of personal growth, cultural exploration, and meaningful connections. Whether it is teaching a new skill, supporting a cause, or simply lending a helping hand, the impact of volunteering extends far beyond the immediate tasks at hand. It’s about building bridges between communities, fostering empathy, and understanding, and creating positive change in the world. Wherever and in whatever role you take part, it will be a process of getting to know yourself better – your perspective, your international identity, your awareness, your
emotions, what you can do and what you want to do. Here’s to many more experiences where we find ourselves!
With love,
