It is now February, and the past few months have brought quite a few changes, especially within the association’s office. The organization has evolved, some things have been adjusted, and overall these changes seem rather positive for the association. At least, I hope so, especially for future volunteers. It does require some adaptation, but that’s part of the project (even if I’m not completely convinced yet…
let’s say good things come to those who wait).

As for me, I am still living in Buca, which should normally change for the next volunteers. Those who know Buca will understand what I mean: it’s a lively, sometimes intense neighborhood, but one you eventually get used to… despite the
constant noise, air pollution, and the feeling that everyone is honking for absolutely no reason. The project is continuing at its own pace, with its ups and downs, and is still moving forward quite slowly (but it’s getting better and better, thanks to Burcu) At least it’s moving forward… a bit like traffic jams in Buca.

On a more personal level, life here is also made up of some very meaningful encounters. Turkish people are incredibly kind and welcoming, and I’ve been lucky enough to meet many amazing people that I’m sure I’ll see again someday. And Izmir is a beautiful city, with plenty of places to explore. I’ll let you discover its surprises by yourself, but if there’s one place I can recommend without hesitation, it’s Alaçatı :
simply idyllic.
