Are you passionate about music and want to put your talent to the test? So, this is the right experience. Welcome in the ESC Humanitarian Aid programme! Throughout ESC projects, European Union don’t only connect you to a new country or a new continent, but it gives you an opportunity to immerse in a different life with new people and communities, explore the impossible, build many exciting experiences to be involved in a daily humble lifestyle! ESC Humanitarian project are designed for anyone who wants to engage as an active citizen and show solidarity to people, from countries that have faced humanitarian disasters and need to increase their preparedness to potential future scenarios. And of course, if you love to cross your borders to support in humanitarian aid operations for sustainability, this SASID Project of Umbuntu awaits you! Now, you will ask about SASID projects and why you should participate in. But do not panic! You will share the best experience you can have in a daily life immersion in the paradise garden of Umbuntu, only if you have a good relationship with nature, plants, and animals! So be ready to join the first social, cultural, and environmental project in southern Brazil!
Let me first introduce myself: I am Sarah, I am 32 years old and I am from Italy. I am volunteering in a SASID project, namely“Solidarity Action for sustainable and inclusive development.” My action is focused on a co-work with the local community of Umbuntu-Alvorada: my activities aim to develop my skills in
permaculture, agroforestry, promoting the environment and changing the climate. To join this project,
you need to know that all the produce grown in the garden is sustainable and free from pesticides, Figure 1 – Umbuntu garden entrance Figure 3 – Me with some boys of Umbuntu! Figure 2 – New banana’s trees 2 starting from vegetables plants, banana’s, salads, spices, fruits, citrus, and honey! You will also taste the fruits of your labour!
You will be part of a unique experience, observing a plant’s growth from soil preparation through planting to harvesting 9its fruit. Do not worry! You will not work alone of course! Umbuntu community will always be there to help you, support you, give you recommendations and make your day happiest and easier, under the heat sun of Brazil So, do not forget you sun protection! Every corner, every wall and every side of the garden is made with sustainable products, we do not throw away nothing … everything is carefully preserved! You can admire the walls of Umbuntu, reflect your face in its beautiful glass bottles, which are set in the concrete wall and internally supported by sugarcane stalks! Can you get any more sustainable than this?
Umbuntu is also a place of celebration, creativity, and endless fun. We work together, we eat and cook together and we play music together! What about your music skills? Do you want to improve or discover your talent? Here you will join for sure the Maracatu’s team and participate in many events; throughout this experience you will know many tales about Brazil humble districts, namely “favelas” and you will enjoy sharing parts of you with new people you will meet.
