Being a European Solidarity Corps (ESC) volunteer in Izmir for a year is turning out to be an incredible experience. Each month brings new challenges, adventures, and personal growth, and I’m thrilled to share some highlights of my journey.

One of the most memorable moments so far was the midterm seminar organized by ESC in Diyarbakır. This three-day event brought together volunteers from all over Turkey, giving us the chance to reflect on our projects, share experiences, and learn from one another. Diyarbakır, with its rich history and welcoming people, was the perfect backdrop for these meaningful conversations and a deeper understanding of solidarity.

Back in Izmir, my English workshops in Gaziemir are thriving. The kids I teach are full of energy—sometimes a little too much! They’re incredibly talented and make me proud with the progress they’re making. On the other hand, the workshops with adults are my personal favorite. They’re always eager to learn, making the sessions both productive and rewarding. Seeing the impact of my work here is truly fulfilling.

Beyond workshops, I spend part of my time in the office, contributing to a humanitarian aid program. One of my most exciting responsibilities is mentoring two volunteers working in Nepal. Guiding and supporting them in their projects has been an enriching experience, and it constantly reminds me of the global impact of volunteering.

This journey hasn’t been all work, though! In November, I took a personal trip to Istanbul, where I explored the vibrant city for a week. Another milestone this month was starting Turkish lessons. Although I’ve only just begun, it feels amazing to connect with the language and culture on a deeper level. These lessons are already helping me navigate daily life more confidently.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to be heading back to France for Christmas at the end of
December. It will be a much-needed break to recharge, spend time with family, and return refreshed for the next chapter of this adventure.

Being an ESC volunteer has been nothing short of transformative. Whether I’m leading a workshop, traveling, or learning a new language, every moment here is shaping me into a more empathetic, skilled, and open-minded individual. I’m excited to see what the rest of this year holds!
