Hello! My name is Lorenzo.
I am 25 years old, and I am from Italy. I studied Tourism Science at university, but now I work as an educator with children with autism, both in schools and youth centers. Working with these kids has been a truly rewarding experience, and it has helped me grow a lot, both personally and professionally.
I joined the European Solidarity Corps because I wanted to experience life in another country, improve my English, and learn about a new culture. I think stepping out of my comfort zone and living abroad will not only help me with my language skills but also open my mind to new ways of thinking and living.
Izmir is a beautiful and lively city with so many things to see and do. I really love it here! It’s a big city with endless places to explore. Every day, I discover something new, thanks to the amazing locals I’ve met who have shown me around. They’re very welcoming, always taking us to interesting spots, sharing stories, and introducing us to new friends. Being here feels like getting to know Izmir from an insider’s perspective, and I feel so lucky to be part of it.
One of the best parts of my experience here has been the group of volunteers I’m working with. Over the past few months, we’ve become like a big family. We share everything—dinners, nights out, weekend trips, and all kinds of fun activities. It’s amazing how close we’ve become and how much we support each other.
The workshops are a lot of fun. I mostly lead English conversation clubs with children and adults, and most of these take place in Gaziemir. Some workshops remind me of my work in Italy with kids, which makes me feel at home here. Each session is a new adventure, and I love helping people of all ages improve their English. Seeing their progress is so rewarding!
I’ll be in Izmir until May 31, and I’m excited about what’s next. There’s always something new happening, and soon two more volunteers will join our apartment, bringing the total to six people! We joke that we could even start a boy band called “The Buca Boys.”
Thank you so much for reading. Stay tuned for more updates! See you next time!
