Hi!
This is my second blog post.
Since the last update, the schedule has shifted quite a bit. Most of the weekly conversation clubs have been replaced with office hours for general work. It’s calmer and more flexible, and I’ve come to appreciate that rhythm more than I expected. There’s something nice about having time to focus, help where I’m needed, and not constantly rush from one place to another. Still, I’d be lying if I said I don’t miss some of the conversation clubs—the energy, the unpredictability, and those moments when
a real connection suddenly clicks.
Right now, only a few of the original activities are still going. On Thursdays, the two sessions continue, and on Saturdays there’s still a conversation club at the office. It feels a bit strange how quiet the rest of the week has become in comparison, but it’s also given me more space to settle into everyday life here.
And everyday life in İzmir is honestly one of the best parts of being here.
I’ve fallen into a simple routine: walking to the park, sitting on a bench, watching people pass by, and—inevitably—being surrounded by cats. They’re everywhere. There’s something grounding about that kind of normalcy—no schedule, no objectives, just existing in the city for a while. Those quiet moments balance out the work. Even though I miss some of the old structure and the regular conversation clubs, this phase feels more reflective. I’m learning to enjoy İzmir not just through activities and responsibilities, but through the small, ordinary details that make it feel alive.
All the best
