My name is Maria Inês, I am 19 years old, and I am from Portugal.
I decided to participate in this experience for everything I could gain.
I confess that at first it wasn’t easy to adapt, also because of the fact that I didn’t know how to speak English very well made it difficult for me to communicate with the other volunteers, then the fact that I had to adapt to a culture that was very different from mine also had its consequences. Good and less good things.
But in the end I know that this experience was worth having for everything it gave me in life. I will come out of this experience a different person and more prepared to face life and the less good things it throws at me. I’m going to leave Türkiye enchanted by everything this city has given me and by all the incredible people I’ve met along the way.
Lexie and Angus were undoubtedly my pillars to make this worthwhile and go well. I am thankful for them for being my shoulder when I needed it. I spent the best time with them, from all the workshops with Lexie where we laughed, had fun with the children and without a doubt we also learned a lot from them, from trips to the beach on off days with Angus where we got to know lots of cool places and beaches beautiful with incredible water, from everything that this new culture brought us, there were many good times.
All the workshops I took, I left there knowing that I gave my best and I know that I will take them all to heart.
It was undoubtedly a learning experience that I will cherish forever.
